Adaptive Bitrate

• A technique used in video streaming in which video content is encoded into multiple streams (at different stream qualities) in order to adapt to varying end-user internet speeds. This enables your viewers to watch any video at the highest quality possible depending on their internet connection.

Admin Panel (or Back End)

• This refers to the management interface of your site. Only administrators can access the admin panel (or back end) with a login account and admin permissions. Admins can access the admin panel's screens to manage their site.

Administrator (or Admin)

• An administrator has a login account to access the admin panel of their site. They have the ability to manage various aspects of their site, depending on the level of user permission they’ve been granted. Examples of admins include channel admin, site admin, or live event operator (LEO).

Attribute

• An attribute is a label or characteristic which you can assign to content. Assigning attributes allows you to group, filter, and define what content appears on a page or in a dynamic slider.

Attribute Group

• A category or grouping of attributes. Attribute groups are defined by an admin. You can customize an attribute group by assigning any attributes that you want to the group.

Categories

• You can create categories and group similar content by assigning content to categories. Create a Video Library page or a dynamic slider that only displays content from a specific category. Introduction to Categories

Channel

• Your site may consist of a single channel or multiple channels. Each channel can have its own admin(s), pages, and content library – all of which are managed separately from other channels. This allows you to customize content for each channel in isolation without affecting the other channels.

Channel Admin

• A channel admin has the highest level of permissions within their channel and, if applicable, its subchannels. They can manage all aspects of their channel and its subchannels.

Front End

• This refers to your site’s user-facing pages that displays content (i.e., videos, text, and images) for viewers to interact with

Home Channel

• The home channel is the main channel specific to a channel admin. The first channel created on your site will always be the home channel.

Live Event Operator (LEO)

• LEOs have the ability to manage live videos. The live events have to first be created by a channel admin or site admin. In order for LEOs to have access to live events, they have to be granted access to the channel(s) in which the live events were created.

Live Video

• Video content that is live streamed as it occurs in real-time.

Menu

• A menu is displayed on the page header of the front end and comprised of menu items which enables viewers to quickly navigate to various sections or pages of the platform or to external webpages. Menu items can be one of the following:

Group: a drop-down list which can include page and URL menu items.

Page: a link to a page on the site.

URL: can be a link to an internal page or an external webpage.

Page

• A page is used to display content (i.e., videos, text, and images). A channel may contain a single page or multiple pages.

Parent Channel

• A channel that has one or more channels under it in a hierarchy.

Peer Channel

• A channel that shares the same immediate parent channel as another channel.

Platform (or Video Platform or Video Site)

• The Vidflex site (or Vidflex video platform) is a video management system that provides one place to host, manage, and monetize all of your video content. It has both a user-facing interface (front end) and an admin panel (back end) – the former for viewers to access your content and the latter for configuring your platform. Pre-roll

• A pre-roll is a video advertisement, which can be monetized. Typically, this is a short video clip which is played before the start of a video or live video. You can assign a pre-roll to all or select video content.

Provisioning

• The process of setting up a live stream to enable live video data to be sent from one source to another.

Role

• A role is what defines a user’s level of access and permissions on a Vidflex site.

For example, your admin role may be channel admin or site admin or live event operator (LEO).

Root Channel

• The channel at the top of the channels hierarchy. This is the home channel for the site admin. For a multi-channel platform, all other channels are organized under the root channel.

Site Admin

• The site admin has the highest level of user permissions. They can manage all aspects of all channels on their Vidflex site.

Stream (or Streaming)

• Streaming video content means playing video content on the internet.

Subchannel (or Child Channel)

• A subchannel is located under another channel (i.e., its parent channel) in a hierarchical format.

User

• Anyone who can log in to a Vidflex site. For example, viewers and admins are considered as users. Users have the ability to upload videos to a platform, under moderation.

Video or Video-on-Demand (VOD)

• Pre-recorded video content that is uploaded and then made available for viewing on a Vidflex site. Videos are played back on demand and can be made available for a set period of time or indefinitely. Videos can be purchased separately or as part of a subscription or purchase package.

Video Sliders

• A video slider is one of the commonly used widgets for displaying video content on a page. Below is an example of what a video slider may look like:

• There are two types of video sliders:

Dynamic Slider: automatically displays video content which you can filter by channel, category, or attribute. (NOTE: Channel and attribute filters are only available for Broadcaster and Enterprise plans.)

Manual Slider: only displays video content which you have manually selected.

Viewer

• A viewer visits a Vidflex site to view its content (i.e., videos, text, and images). Depending on the platform’s configurations, a viewer may need to create an account and/or be granted access (by an admin) in order to access content.

Widget

• A widget is an element of a page layout. There are different types of widgets and depending on how they’re configured, each of them displays content in a certain manner. Widgets control how content is displayed on a page.
